Who can enter
All entrants must be age 18 or under (Junior College students are not eligible) and live and/or attend school in the California counties of Santa Clara, Santa Cruz, San Mateo, Alameda, Monterey, or San Benito. Please read all contest rules carefully.
Entry categories
Each photographer may not submit more than six (6) entries. The six photos in the “Senior Portfolio” entry category counts as one entry Senior Portfolio entrants may enter other categories with the same image by making a second print of the image.If more than 6 total entries are submitted (Senior Portfolio counting as one entry) all entries will be disqualified.
- Photojournalism: A picture that tells a story.
- Architecture: Man-made structures.
- Nature: The natural world around us.
- Special Techniques: In-camera, darkroom, or computer manipulation of an image.
- Studio Photography: Artistic still life in a controlled situation. No portraits.
- Portraits: People only.
- Darkroom Photography: Photograph produced entirely in the darkroom in black and white only. Any subject matter allowed. Judging based on print quality, composition, tonal range, and mounting.
- Animals: Any non-human living subject.
- Senior Portfolio: A selection of six (6) prints representative of a high school Senior's photographic work. A combination of black-and-white, color, or digital prints is allowed.
Contest Rules
- All entrants must be age 18 or under (Junior College students are not eligible) and live or attend school in the California counties of Santa Clara, Santa Cruz, San Mateo, Alameda, Monterey, or San Benito.
- All photos must be mounted on a single 11" x 14" mat board. Framed, double matted, or other sized boards will not be judged.
- Each black-and-white, color, or digital print must be entered in one and only one category. Note that category 7, Darkroom Photography, is only for entries created entirely in the darkroom and only in black and white.
- All photos must be the students’ own original image and all prints must be made by the student.
- Cash or merchandise prizes will be awarded in each category and for “Best of Show.”
- Enter online at pglgefcontest.org. Print the official entry form and attach to the back of each submission, with the arrow pointing to the top of the print. Instructors must initial the entry form attached to the photo submission.
- If you can’t use the online entry system, copy the official entry form at right and make sure the following fields are complete and legible: student name, address, city, zip, phone, school, instructor, and a single entry category clearly circled.
- Prints without our official entry form attached or forms that are incomplete or illegible will not be judged.
